I Shipped His Soul
By Fayette Fox

This man did not realize
I was stealing his soul
Until his light was captured
His movement blurred
Onto my strip of Kodak plastic
Shipped down The Great California River
A large jump indeed
Through Arizona
New Mexico
And then the river enters Texas
Moves a bit more slowly
Burrowing through the heat
Like a long prime time soap opera
Finds its way to Dallas

The CEO of the Dallas film processing plant
Smiles
Recognizing these stolen lights and darks
Originated in an upscale supermarket
If he lived here
He'd shop there too

But the crazy flying man?
The CEO straightens his bolo
And looks at but does not read
His watch for reassurance
