Park Bag
By Fayette Fox

The bag has been traveling with him
Since the supermarket across the street.
But he and the backpack have seen India.
Small-eared elephants
Tiger tails,
Tongues of mongeese.
The lushness of yesterday.

The man is content here,
In the States,
San Anselmo
And
This spot in the park,
He visits every other Sunday.

The backpack oscillates at
The seams
Pondering its great escape
Which it reasons
Will send the man after it
And turn them both
Back into travelers
