Juan is
in my PE class and after class, while we
were getting dressed I decided to find out
what he knew about Dee wanting to break up
with me. I didn't come right out and say
anything about breaking up, I just said
that I had heard that he and Dee had had a
conversation. Juan acted all weird when I
mentioned Dee's name. He asked me if Dee
had said anything about him. I told
him no, that Dee hadn't told me anything.
That I had heard this from Marita who
heard it from Flora who said she heard it
from him. So I wanted to know what was
going on.
Then he
said, "Hey man, I'm you're friend. You
know that. And no way would I want to hurt
you, but there's something that you ought
to know."
Well,
what is it?
"It's
something about Dee, but I think you
should really hear it from
her."
Well, I
told Juan that as long as he brought it
up, that he should just tell me himself.
So he did.
He told
me that the afternoon that me and Dee got
a ride home with Victor and I went out to
the Quik Stop for a few minutes, that Dee
had come on to Juan in the car. "She said
she really liked me. I tried to fight her
off man, 'cause you're mi amigo, but she
was wild with passion you know?
He must
have thought that I didn't believe him ,
or something, because then he said, "You
don't believe me? Hey, I can understand
that. No man wants to think about his
woman cheating on him! But she did! She
even gave me this hickey!"
And he
showed me a small red bruise on his neck.
"I told
her I wasn't interested. That I was loyal
to you like a brother and I would not fool
with your woman. No way!"
Then
Juan left and I walked to my locker,
totally confused.
Dee and
Becca were standing and talking near the
lockers. When they saw me, Becca gave Dee
a push in my direction then Becca took
off.
Dee
apologized for acting so weird but that
she had a lot on her mind.
Then I
asked her if she wanted to break up with
me. I was preparing myself for the worst.
But she said, "No!" And I could tell by
the way she said it, she was really
surprised that I asked.
Then she
told me that Juan had sexually harassed
her in Victor's car that afternoon. She
told me the whole thing and how terrible
she felt afterwards and why she was afraid
to tell me about it. When I heard what she
went through I felt like killing Juan. Dee
asked me if I believed her and of course I
did. It all made sense to me now and I was
going to beat the crap out of that filthy
liar, Juan. But Dee said that she did NOT
want any fighting going on because of what
happened. She said she was not a weak
little princess that needed to be rescued.
She was a strong woman and was taking care
of this herself. She wanted me to promise
that I would let her fight her own
battles. I promised. Then she gave me a
hug and kissed my check. For the first
time in a week I felt in tune
again.
